backup anything you want to keep. (my computer sh*t if you keep it there, any misc dl'ed files)

i personally copy/paste all of the steam files since they're about 4+gigs so you dont have to dl them again.

make a list of programs you have installed so you know what to re-install upon reformatting.

im about to do mine this week, been close to nine months since my last.

Make sure you get all the really important stuff (read: irreplacable). Pictures and Work stuff is a very high priority in my book. I have enough copies on my various comps/thumb drives, but still it's nice to make sure. Configuration files for programs I customize are pretty important to me. Drivers taht are annoying to get are also useful (especially if one of them is network-related). Can save some time on the reinstall. After that it's just convenience. As wulf said, things that take forever to download like steam games.

other than that just remember that it is not completely erased till you take it out and run a large speaker magnet over it a couple times. do this to ensure that it is completely erased.

There's a utility called "Eraser" that I use, it basically does what Billy says to do but without the physical shit. Basically, any file or folder you want to delete, you can use Eraser and it'll write it over 30+ times with encrypted, random data. It comes with a "Nuke Boot Disc" utility you might like :)

Until this summer I hadn't reformatted my computer since I got it like 5 years ago. mj0ne5 is my friend and I'm going to be helping him so I know the drill kinda. But he doesn't know anything about comps.... ( :weee: mike....) so I'm going to be doing everything. Haha.

Yeah, David is right. I really don't care. I just want a managable machine. My computer should be a lot better than it is. I'll probably just buy a gig of RAM and a new graphics card. But not until winter most likely. Oh, and thanks for the help so far, guys.
