Well, my bro and I kinda saw it coming. My CD drive has been acting funkier over the last year. If anyone has forgotten my computer is from like 2001 or 2002, with minimal upgrades. It's always been loud when running, people have complained about it on vent before. But a couple of days ago, I was trying to copy music from a CD on my computer, and half way through the CD, the drive just stops running and doesn't finish copying. I try ejecting it and retrying, that doesn't work. I let it sit a day and restart and that doesn't do anything either. I tried installing a game yesterday and it wouldn't get past disc 2. Though, I did later find out the disc is badly scratched and wouldn't read any more than that on any other computer anyways, but it still wasn't running right.

So I'm kind of a bind now. I know the advice of most people, myself included is that my computer is so ancient that I should just get a new one. Due to monetary issues though, not really possible, which sucks. Which sucks more is my brother's computer recently died and since he goes to college he was allowed to get a new one which was better than his old one, which was way better than mine. GAH!!!

But yeah, I haven't tested it too much to see what I can still do with it cause I don't really want it to get worse. I hope I can still watch DVDs.

You can find a good CD drive for 20$ on newegg.com.....if that is what you're asking....or something...

Get a DVD burner, even a good one is still only like 30 bucks.

Optical drives are cheaper than dirt. A dead cd drive shouldn't make you go buy a whole new computer... :20:

Yeah I know, probably will end up doing that. I have so much to spend my money on right now though, kinda annoying, but all equally important. Could someone give me a link of a good, cheep DVD Drive/Burner (which can obviously read and burn CDs too)?

Okay, yeah I might get that. Do you guys use external drives or do you have them internally? Wait, this is external right?

Either you're thinking of HDD's or there is some technology I never found out about.

Okay now I'm confused, is this something I install to inside my computer or can I just have it connected to a USB port or something on the outside of my computer.

Show me a virus that destroys physical hardware and I'll be glad to.

Oh noes!! Lol, no sorry, I'm not emo. I've never really had much experience with the inner workings of a computer though. I understand specs somewhat and can figure things out if I need to, but I do fairly basic stuff. That's why it's nice to have you guys to ask if I have a problem, like the CD drive thing.
