I would use AVG clicky download basic and that is free virus protections, plus its free and better than AOL cause AOL is a horrific program and hardly has manipulability... if you are having spy-wear issues use http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ free version of course hope that helps....

I personally haven't had a virus in about 3 years for it to catch, but it's there.

I was just checking that out. If it uses the Kaspersky engine and isnt retarded I'd give it a try BUT:
"We're Sorry!
AOL Active Virus Shield is no longer available.
Looking for protection from viruses, spyware and hackers?
We are now offering McAfee Virus Scan Plus-Special edition from AOL.
Please visit AOL Internet Security Central to find the most comprehensive FREE set of safety tools available to help keep you, your family, and your PC safer from online threats."
McAfee = failure
Scratch that. I'm going to check out http://download.nullsoft.com/avs/ when I get home. the UI is exactly like Kaspersky whick is awesome. Someond download the shit and let me know whats going on.
If AOL = Free Kasperyky sign me up Kas is so much better than anything else that I have used

No, I don't have any issues with what my spy is wearing.
And normally AOL is teh suck but the AOL Active Virus Shield wasn't really a product of AOL, it was more like Kaspersky dressed up with an AOL logo here and there.
Anyway, Kaspersky is the best by far. Totally worth the price and such.
EDIT: Oh BTW, wikipedia, motherfucker, do you use it?
You can still download the last version of AOL Active Virus Shield at the link Shlonky provided. It still updates along with Kaspersky according to the AOL website.
