i just saw war of the worlds. there is a lot of action and great special effects. i mean amazing all of the earthquakes, lightning, explosions. the aliens are striders similar to those in half life 2 and a planet plans to attack earth pretty much as soon as the movie starts. the ending was left kind of open of how it ended but it was a great movie. always nice seeing the us army kick some ass and then in this movie they cant do sh*t. also some good humor throughout. if i was mr moviephone i would give it a      five thumbs up if katie holmes was in it.

light weight, crass, sorry to say very :21: americanised :21: pap turning a heart stoppingly scary concept into a vehicle for tom cruise to show his manly but sensitive father figure.

As many remakes failed to live up to the hype and totally missed the true meaning of the authours intent. Special effects driven drivel. SS should stick to pure flights of fancy, he has substituted a body count Arny would be proud of for real suspense and horror.

The only thing that saves this film is Tim robbins, other than that as forgettable as any half assed Summer tripe.

rating 2/5 (on TR's performance only)

Yeah, the ending was lame but that is how it is supposed to end. At least in this remake, you see the alien's face. The book, and the old movie only show a hand drop out of the machine.....then....the end. Good movie. Thumbs up.

yeah it ended well i mean it all maked sense but it wasnit timed well. the movie picks up with the begining of the war, and the aliens die the day they plan to attack. theyve been on earth for billions of years and they just die the day of attack. that could have been timed better, but it was very entertaining to watch still.

Any way... War of the Worlds was a good susense movie. I thought it was great but many people think the robots look a lot like the striders from half life 2. They do, but these robots' weapons are a lot more badass. Can I get a whoop-whoop?  Two thumbs up.

ending was articulate, very meaningful and very short. I fully understood it and left satisfied. With or without cruise, the movie was really good. Special effects were truly amazing.

I'd go see it again.

in new york city all there was, was people selling fake rolez watches for $10 and bootlegged movies for $5. i didnt buy any but my friends bought starwars 3 and mr and mrs smith, and...war of the worlds. quality wise, war of the worlds was horrible. it looked like it was made in the 50s. and the sound sucked. so dont buy them even though they look like theyre in the actual cases.

I thought it was good, but I expected way more from Speilburg though. The special effects were good, i'll give it that, but man that ending was just horrible.

Even though it's kind of a dark movie, it still had its funny moments, at least I thought so.

the book take place in the english country side centered on one guy who sees the first aliens striders melt people then he hides with a crazy guy as the army gets owned and the martian vine takes over then gets news of the martians and the vine dieing- thats pretty much it, no family, no kids, nothing but self preservation in mind.

which i dont think translates well to 2005 america and i hate how the whole family issue was added, and wtf was up with boston if it was hit hard how is the wifes parents house and its neighborhood totally undamaged and still has power?

in retrospect i cut my b*tching way short and probably should have put this under rants but o well.

The movie was great the only thing i dont get is... how the kid is alive after getting blown up by the explosion and how there is only a row of apparments left at the end of the movie :dork:

i dont know man. i think the story could have been better if he did died. bc throughout the movie you just learn not to like him and when he dies i was like oh well. and at the end theyre standing at the house like nothing happens. another part i hated was they die the day they attack. kind of random. still a good movie though.
