I'm getting a new laptop, and after shopping around, I'm thinking about getting an Asus G1Sn-X1.

Dual core, Intel @ 1.83GHz each, 4GB RAM @ 667MHz, 15.4" screen (need something smaller than my current 17", which is just too big to be really portable), 320GB hard drive (SATA, of course - 5400 RPM), NVIDIA GeForce G9500M GS w/ 512MB DDR2; up to 1GB TurboCache, wireless support for 802.11a/b/g/n, 64-bit Vista, etc.

Any comments, suggestions, or recommendations? I Googled around for reviews, and just about everything I hear has been positive. Battery life is about 2hrs or so from what I hear. I've heard that Asus makes good motherboards, but I honestly didn't know much about them before today. Has anyone here had any experience with their products?

I'm not much of a techi, but I do know that ASUS is tops in the motherboard dept. Shouldn't be to hard to google up some reviews for that laptop, though.

Good to hear.

Bad news is that I just heard from my college that they recommend a core 2 duo >= 2GHz, and the package I was looking at is only 1.83GHz. Best Buy refuses to do anything different on it, too, so I guess I'm either going to have to find another Asus distributor and pay more for a laptop with a >2GHz processor or just go with a different brand altogether.

More bad news: dunno whether the VPN client they have is compatible with 64-bit Vista yet, so I might just wind up with 3GB RAM and 32-bit...
