ok this is probably a very newb like question but i dont know that much about this so here it goes...
i was wondering if a laptop has a nonbuilt in video card(upgradable) then can you upgrade with any PCI Expressx16 video card? (the model i have is PCI Expressx16 but it is the M series)
or does the video card you upgrade to also have to be in the M Series...(nVidia cards)

EDIT:

also is PCI Express 2.0 backwards compatible with pci expressx16
because i am hearing a lot of great thigns about Radeon HD 4850 & 4870

i am basically wondering all the things i should be looking into before buying a video card to upgrade a laptop...

this is turning out to be a multiple question topic >_< lol

Unless you own a very expensive desktop equivalent laptop (Which then you either have to much money, or need to be shot.), then no. Most laptops GPUs are built into the motherboard, which is why you see a lot of them saying "shared memory" when talking about the GPU.
If you want to upgrade you'll have to buy a new laptop or spend the money more intelligently and build a low cost PC.

Old topic man, and you didn't have anything worth while to add.

Please try and stick to newer topics unless you really have something constructive to add.
