A little trick ive learned, apply for the smallest majors in MIT. like chemistry, philosophy, english, journalism. That way itll be easier to get in since they want some of those programs to grow and nobody goes to MIT for those. The moment you get there switch majors. Ive got a friend who got into georgetown with chemistry, the moment he got there he went to engineering.

My roommate and good friend from freshman year came from a small town that didn't offer AP courses, so it will take him all this year to finish his degree in mechanical engineering. 5 years of engineering is tough, even for all the asians that go here.

Same here, got two months left to complete mechanical engineering in 4 1/2 years. Midterms blow, but hey its better than working in the 'real world' right now. Gotta agree with that.
That's pretty good. My dad got a "dual option" degree in both mechanical and electrical in 5 years, so I can understand how engineering can be rough.
I tried engineering by doing some internships with his company when I was like 15-17, but I realized it just wasn't for me. Not a fan of CAD, much less the actual blueprinting and endless checks for errors. Architecture is cool, but I wouldn't be great at it and I doubt I'd enjoy it all that much to justify going for it.
Instead, I'm doing a dual major in network security and information sciences with an emphasis on programming. So far it hasn't been too terrible, mainly due to the fact that the AP credits I got back in high school let me start my freshman year with 25 credits - which is 1 less than the minimum to be considered a sophomore.
Either way, while the work sometimes sucks, you got to love the atmosphere, right?
