I just got the 9950 125 Watt and its pretty good. I'm surprised how cool it runs even under max utilization.

Yeah, thx. What all sparked this was my old comp died; either mobo or processor. Haven't found out which1 yet but something happened when trying to install my 7th internal harddrive and the thing just shutdown. I know its not the PSU b/c I unplugged basically everything, cleaned out everything, re-hooked up just the main hd, graphics card, re-installed the cpu and the mobo led error indicator says the cpu is dead but could also be the mobo. Nothing pops up on my monitor so who knows, I'll troubleshoot that sh*t this weekend and if I get it working I'll makit a media center pc and getta hdtv tuner for my cable.

hdtv tuner's are not all they are cracked up to be, its a pain in the but to get Clear QAM working. So you're left with just ATSC channels which is just pretty much local abc, nbc, cbs, and fox.

Get a dual analog tuner, it won't be as good of quality but its cheaper and you can record one and watch another. Plus the real fun of media center is when its hooked up to a tv and you watch downloaded movies.

Also are you going to be using the stock cpu cooler?

Well i got hdtv tuners on a couple tv's in my house and i get around 7hd channels; used to get vs., golftv, and believe it or not showtime but my notorious service provider encrypted them. I just wanna dvr, already got a tv tuner but its about 5 years old, and we'll see about getting a new1..hm. I'll post pics, order's shipped, but gotta sh*tton of stuff to do before i can even set this thing up later in the week.

A couple of things about this new comp:
- Realized shortly after making that a different mobo would be better for my needs: only 3 sata inputs can be used for regular drives -> video card gets in the way of 1 and the sata5&6 slots are only for raid which i might do but don't really want to
- The drivers on the dvd that came with the mobo were f*cked; called up asus and basically had to just dl drivers after installing windows 3 times since it wouldn't let me load windows after installing the chipset drivers.
- This HD4870 is sick! I love everything about it so far and can't wait to post some scores on it in the near future. enjoy the pics.

Going to use some new thermal paste; got some artic silver 5 laying around but kinda old and just gunna get some new sh*t when i get an aftermarker heatsink/fan

Could have picked a better motherboard, but it's still decent. The 'RAID Only' slots can be used in regular JBOD(just bunch of disks) make sure RAID is disabled and they will function like normal SATA ports.



Atleast someone knows good wiring management. Have a windowed case wire management is a requirement! Look like such a toolbag when it looks like shadow's crotch after a gay sex orgy.
