For Nvidia, SLI is about prestige, and it's about being a technology leader, showing themselves at the front of the market. I do believe that the introduction of ATI MVP will dent that significantly, regardless of the eventual raw performance. Nvidia SLI, as a grandchild of 3DFX, has a certain affection in the hearts of most enthusiasts. Something tells me that, in a kind of intangible way, MVP will cheapen that.
It'll be like discovering that your childhood sweetheart, who you've been seeing for years, is actually just one of a number of people who will perform outrageous stunts in bed for you. When it's available elsewhere, regardless of the ins and outs, the fondness will dissolve.
