I've had a few people ask me how I make my CS Videos, so i'll make a small tutorial

There are 2 ways to make CS videos, the long, bullsh*t way or the easy way.

Option 1:
The bullsh*t way is to do it with the commands in the console. record demoname. After the demo is recorded, play the demo and type in startmovie in the console. When your done recording what you want, type in endmovie.
**This will make a BMP file for every frame and will flood your harddrive, I highly recommend you don't make a movie this way.

Option 2:
2 programs are required, Fraps and VirtualDub

Fraps is free to try and $40 to buy. The free version will only record 30sec i think with a fraps watermark.

Anyway, when you run Fraps, keep it minimized and run any video game normally. When the game starts, there will be a FPS ticker at one of the corners, that is the FPS fraps is registering.
When your ready to record a video, press f9 and the FPS ticker will turn red. This means it's recording an AVI. When your done recording, press f9 again and it will stop.

Now, this is going to make a huge ass file, approx 1GB per minute. That is because it's fully uncompressed. This is what we will be using virtualdub for.

Virtualdub is freeware and easy to use. When you're ready to compress, open virtualdub and open the AVI you wish to compress.
Go to Video->Compression and select a codec. I suggest using the microsoft codec because everyone should have it. (If you select an uncommon codec, not everyone will be able to see the video)

After you have selected the codec, go to File->Save AVI.. and name it. Once you press OK, it will begin compressing the AVI. And thats all there is too it.

I have the website http://www.niplick.com but there's nothing on it, i only use it as a file server. If you need to upload a video, just ask, i'll make a guest FTP account.

Questions, comments, concerns post in here

How big is the file? Go to the video file, right click, click properties and tell me what the size is. If it has a GB at the end or a 3digit number with MB at the end, quit the upload

You have to compress it with VirtualDub, it will shrink the file size by like 98%

your 700+MB file size will be reduced to about 20MB compressed

Once a file is compressed you cant compress it anymore. Also, unless you have a business internet line, your upload will be slow, most people max out between 30 and 50KB ps

Yeah but it's complicated

When you run fraps to record a video, change your FPS to 10fps and lower your resolution to 800x600

It will look like absolute sh*t but it'll be smaller

As for the video you already created, no, it will not get any smaller

The way I dot it is record in the game then watch it later with fraps. The reason I do it like that is fraps tends to lag me during play.I havent tried it with source just cod and ra3(quake 3 mod).
