First off: Download/Upload speed doesnt have anything to do with Ping. DSL generally has higher ping times as they are distance sensitive. This means that if you are right next to one of their switches then you are golden, if you arent then you are f*cked. The phone companys (DSL carriers) say that with Cable, it matters if your whole block is on the INternet at the same time. This is NOT true in a sense that most cable providers SHOULD be able to pump out plenty of bandwidth for a whole neighborhood as they are on different trunks of the node. This IS true, however, cus it does matter if your whole block is on the Internet at the same time cuz the whole Internet is shared WITH EVERYONE IN THE WHOLE WORLD anyways. Thats what the Internet is. Generally ping times. Cable uses a hybrid fiber coax network. This means that they have MUCH more fiber everywhere than actual cable. If you read the fine print on the DSL ads, they advertise (in my area) 6mb/sec, but the fine print reads "up to 6mb." They guarantee youll get 3mb. Thats pretty sh*tty. Time Warner in my area guarentees a full 7mb/sec which ill get all day long off a fast site.
So the fact that I live about 100 yards from the bellsouth building is a...good thing??
