i bought battlefield 2 today..and as expected my computer isnt up to par with the new gaming world. My processor, sound card and all that is good, but my memory is sh*t and my video card is too. I looked online and ran over to best buy today hoping to get the Radeon 9550mb 256 ddr agp card, and a stick of 256 pc 3200 mb ram, cause that would give me more than i needed in a video card and only 512 mb of ram but that'll get the job done for now.

i didnt get the card yet but its 80 bucks
and the stick of ram is coming out to 25 bucks with a rebate

i dont do many upgrades, anyone have some suggestion?

Nooooooo! Don't buy...those!

You can get a 6600 GT for about $100 if you shop around, which is MUCH more powerful than the 9550. Also, if you do your homework you can get 512MB of ram pretty cheap as well...

You should be able to get a 9800 pro for about that too. The 128mb card would be fine. More system memory makes a bigger difference as you need that to load all the textures. If you dont have enough system memory then performance goes down the tubes. I have 1gb and its barely enough for BF2 yet not enough for Doom III at highest settings (believe it or not) but fine for everything else. Get a 9800 pro or one of the cheaper x800gtos or whatever they are called. Id check out http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814129033 or http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814161147 the second ones fancy lookin and you could prolly overclock the sh*t out of it with that bigass cooling system..

DEFINETLY worth spendin a few extra bucks on a video card.

A 9600/9800 over a 6600 GT? You're crazy...that's just pointless. That's like taking 2 steps backwards...

The X700 wouldn't be bad if you absolutely must have an ATI card, but the 6600 GT really does outperform it by a decent margin in MOST games. HL2 will be a lil better with the X700.

Memory size on a video card isn't nearly as important (with all the cards mentioned at least) as Pixel Pipelines and Architecture. Having 256MB of video memory isn't going to help you at all if your card can't move information fast enough. The 9550 and 9600 have 4 pixel pipes...which is really pretty terrible. If you're on a budget 8 is what you'll want (12 or 16 if you can get it). The 6600 GT is simply much FASTER than the 9600/9800 and even the X700.

The X800 GTO isn't bad, but if you're going to spend that kind of money get a 6800 GS instead.

no no no, you got it all wrong. i was just saying theres no point in getting the 9550 for 80 when that wouldnt run it on high. my 9800 runs it on high which i was just stating as an example. and i would say the 6600 as well. i wasnt recomending it.

Excuses! You will pay for your insolence!!

Hehe, kidding.

But yeah, grab a 6600 GT. Your performance will be much better than any ATI card under an X800...
