hey guys long time no see.

i broke my girl friends camera last night. i dropped it by accident. its a canon sd300 powershot, it was purshased 8 months ago at best buy for about 350 bucks with a 4 year service agreement. well dropping it dented it so the service agreement wouldnt cover it so it would be 60 dollars an hour for the geek squad to send it in to the factory to get repaired. the guy there guranteed it would be over 300 plus shipping.

whats wrong with it is the dent jammed the zoom thing so it cant come out, so i cant take pics with it. it still turns on and you can look thru the pics so nothing major.

i called canon and they said to mail it in, prob be 20 bucks to do that, and theyll get an estimate on it. it would be free since its under 12 months old, but since theres a dent, theyll know and itll cost. he said its 89 dollar minimum charge, and costs more depending on whats broken inside, plus paying for it to get shpped back. im going to call the factory tomorrow, which i havnt yet, to describe exactly whats wrong with it to get an estimate on that.

so i looked online and they dont sell this camera anymore, they sell the sd450 for 299 at most local stores, but thats online, maybe its more in the store. plus i have to get her the 4 year service thing and maybe shipping.

i looked on ebay, and i found one with a bid that was ending in an hour, and it said sd300 brand new never been open for 190 bucks plus shipping. should i do something like that? how do i know if the guy is serious? he had a 59 rating and a 100% feedback. i just dont know if i can trust it. i have to get it new tho. so how do i know what is adverties as new is? theres no refunds on ebay....

is there any other things i should look in to or places on line i could look for finding the cheapest one? i dont want to spend over 300, and preferably over 200 if i could find the sd300 but they dont make it anymore. i just wish the factory could tell me that it wouldnt be more than 89 but i have to mail it in for them to look. so if anyone know of some websites with a cheap place or anything else or more on trusting ebay, let me know.

thanks, sorry its so long, just costs me a lot of money that i dont have,

thanks,
derek

buy a the camera from wal-mart, put the old broken one in the new cameras box. Then return it to wal-mart. They will never know the difference. I think that is what shlonky was trying to say.

Derek, canons make some of the best digital cameras. I have the A520 and its a solid camera and theyve come down in prices alot. I say you go for the A610, 5mp http://www.jr.com/JR...Product=4053932 215$

no i need to get her the same kind. well atleast one in the sd family. im going to look into repairing it, if i have to buy her a new one i think im giong to tell her ill pay 200 tops for it.

shlonky, im giong to pm you about your plan, tell me mor haha.

the canon factory wont give me an estimate till i mail it in. mailing it in is like 20 bucks. and theres this store around where i live im going to try to take it to to get an estimate for free.

i foudn this at ritz camera, they offer : Our Expanded Service Policy provides your equipment with coverage from almost every possible occurrence (except fire and theft) while you are using your equipment. Whether your equipment is water damaged or accidentally dropped, your equipment will be repaired or replaced at no extra charge by your Expanded Service Policy. Our ESP's cover both film and digital cameras, lenses, flashes, video camcorders, and most other photo equipment or optical items that we have sold.
