so whats this new physics card that i see is now for sale?

ASUS PhysX P1 Card powered by AGEIA PhysX processor 128MB PCI()[+299]

for 300 bucks what does this physics card do to your games? any videos or demonstrations? i think ghost recon is the only game that supports it but i dont think any of the videos showed it. in my opinion, you shouldnt have to spend 300 bucks for physics.

it takes over the physics calcualtions from CPU. pretty nasty stuff. I wouldn't buy the first versions though. wait for the next gen. it allows game developers to put more lighting, shadows, particles into game without forcing the CPU or GPU too much. I believe it is the next big thing in PC gaming.

I was thinking about purchasing an oem one from newegg a little while back, but decided against it because they will more than likely be integrated into video cards in the future. If you go to AGEIA's website they have videos and pics.

yup. like hyperthreading and multicore CPUs do at the moment. but when they start making games that supports the hardware it will be much faster than average systems. I just hope they decide on a standard for the developing libraries, like Open GL or Direct X. otherwise it will be a mess like DVD formats.

are there any games that are known to be using this in the future? bc right now i think ghost recon is the only one that really uses it. or was designed for it.

kind of like ghost recon's textures cant be on high unless you have a 512mb card

games are getting demanding :(

i think most of the major game engines will support it soon. so expect any game made with those engines use the new tech.

OK so being the hardware junkie that I am, I read into this gadget a lot. My conclusion is that this thing is NOT going to take off. The only improvements that it makes currently is with a very high end system. Lower end systems lose performance.

The only performance gained is a little bit more "sh*t flying around" when stuff blows up. Fremerate stays about the same with a high end system.

Driver support right now seems to suck, so Itll prolly be a bit better in the near future. If such a thing can lower CPU usage enough to raise framerate due to more CPU power being dedicated to the GPU, then this may be a good idea. However, if it works out this way, graphics cards will more than likely integrate this technology.

After everything is said for $300, upgrade your videocard and or processor and you'll get a MUCH better performance gain. If you already have an fx57/60 and an 1900xtx (shadow), dont buy this and spend your money on a new monitor (shadow) :20:

ShLoNkYs rating for this thing =
