So I was getting tired of the built in Windows themes and I didn't want to waste my system resources by using a theme memory patcher like WindowBlinds, so I found the UXTheme Multi-Patcher.

It basically patches your uxtheme.dll so you can do this:

without an external program.

Download

BTW if you get an error when trying to run the patch about setup/installation files in c:\windows, go to c:\windows and rename the i386 folder to something else (i386 is worthless so don't worry)

I used this thing ages ago. It was nice to have a different GUI for Windows, but with the ability to change it, I couldn't find one that I liked. Which eventually ended up with me replacing the original files so I couldn't change them every day or two. But, none the less, it's a nifty little thing.

Updated with another mirror link of the file. Also, great themes can be had at DeviantArt, Belchfire.net, and other places.

Themes go in C:\Windows\RESOURCES\Themes

Once the UXTheme Patcher is installed, just find and download the desired skins and place them in...

C:\Windows\RESOURCES\Themes

Once you've got them in there, right-click the desktop and choose 'Properties'. Guide yourself to the 'Appearance' tab and choose the appropriate skin from the 'Windows and Buttons' drop menu. If the skin has multiple coloring schemes, choose the desired colors from the 'Color Scheme' drop menu just below it.
