I installed a copy of MS Vista RC1 on a partitioned hard drive. I got rid of it a few days ago. However seing as i dual booted the option to boot vista is still on my loading screen. It gives me the choice of visat or older version of windows. Is there a way to let the system know that there is only the one install now. How do i let it know that vista is gone.

check into C:\Boot.ini, That usually handles all booting options.

just be careful which 1 you remove, could fuck you real good :)

Hah, yeah it could.. i got the same thing after i uninstalled vista awhile ago, and i just went in and accidentally removed ntldr lol.. had to get my windows install disk and copy that stuff back over.. i pwned myself lol.. but also a few weeks after i uninstalled vista ( i put it on my second drive that had nothing on it), the hdd that it was on just died.. (it was newer than my primary drive too)

So watch out.. vista doesnt like being uninstalled.. lol

yeah thats where its at. i got the same thing when i installed a version of windows xp 64bit edition. i posted a topic about it around 6 months ago. go to start > run > msconfig then click on the boot.ini part. disable the windows vista crap thing. let us know if it works.

yea none of these methods seem to work for me. I still have the option of vista and an older version. my boot.ini only has the one option but there are still 2 on the boot screen.

you have to run vista's tool to edit it. They changed it from XP's boot.ini...
or install linux and then reinstall XP. :D

when I unistalled vista I had the same prob...

all you need to do is find an xp install disk(I take no responsibility if you kill a random computer with these instructions.)

Boot into recovery console by pressing "R" at the following screen.
Type command "FIXBOOT C:" (No quotes)
Next type "FIXMBR", read serious warning messages and press "Y" to continue
Exit and reboot.
Finally edit Boot.ini and delete line with "Longhorn" or "Vista" on it and delete the folder Vista resides in.

EDIT: This will leave your pc only booting xp...if you have a dual boot like linux you will have to redo grub or lilo...

Wow I can't believe I'm saying this but I completely forgot about Vista. Is it out for the masses yet? If you go buy a PC will it be vista yet? Since I keep hearing you guys all talking about uninstalling it should I guess it sucks?
