I need a semi-cheap but reliable Video card. I'm hoping you guys could throw me a few ideas as this is what's currently keeping me off CSS. 14 fps does not make for me being a happy camper.

You're walking into a hornets nest with that question. :D

That aside, price range?

eh. since i'm adding another 512 to the ram, i'd say $75-125 for the moment.

I'm basically looking to just reach a frame rate that doesn't make me want to throw my ashtray through the monitor.

You'll need to provide your price range for everything, not just ram. Here's a 512 stick for $50 shipped. You'll see better performance with a higher end video card, than higher end ram.

What are your current specs?

ram's already taken into consideration, the price range was for the card.

current specs:
3.0 gig dual pentium 4.
512mb ddr.
factory v-card is a generic 3dfx.
factory 160 gig hd.

Link I Like eVGA cards. this one has the better cooler thats quieter.

Link Cheap. Will do the trick.

Link 256-bit bus. Not a bad card at all.

all the 7600's i found were $150-250.

here's a 7300gt for $70.

would this likely get me to or higher than 50fps?

Damn, nice find. That is about the best price/card you can get for your budget. $65 MIR is pretty bad, but the end price is awesome.

BFG has a lifetime warranty, toll free 24/7 tech support, and comes overclocked. If you OC the card anymore, it will void your warranty.

If you OC it more and break it, that is. I have my stuff overclocked all the time, and I get warranty replacements when needed. Just dont say you blew it up cuz you OC'ed it.

Damn, now I'm not saying that's a smokin' machine but with a decent card and a Gig-o-RAM you should be set. I would defiantly go with one of those 7600gt's. The clocks on them are GREAT and overclock well. The only down side is the 128bit

128 bit is horrible performance in games..

Please dont be a n00b, aim for 256 bit, on that note, yesterday while browsing newegg I saw a really nice 1900 HDCP card or some shit, it was 150 dollars, had 256bit with 256mb ram on it, with a passive heatsync

Perhaps the x1800GTO I'm getting? 256-bit 256-mb memory! $120.
