I have had a 37 inch Mitsubishi CRT Monitor for years. It will do 1280x1024 and is just a huge monster. Last night while playin CS:S the screen shrank back to it default settings for no reason. I tried to stretch it back out but the menu buttons also decided to stop working. It shrunk so I am missing about 2 inches on the left and right side so my screen is almost a perfect square and it looks a little funny. The model number is XC-3730C If anyone finds one on the web please let me know. I cannot go back to my 21 inch monitor it will kill me. Willing to spend the cash to ship the beast.

I found a remote for it on ebay for 21.99 I am going to buy it, I should be able to adjust the horizontal width with that!

My projector does 1280x1024 and my screen is 109 inches and that looks great. 1280x1024 isn't that bad.

BIGASS CRT FTW!! I have a 29" NEC but its only 800x600. Weighs about 3 tons and still looks nice after all these years.

i have no fukin idea what the ideal resolution is for my monitor since it was given away to me but i run it at 1600x1200 and it looks prefect do i guess that that is the res. Its a 19 inch CRT

My 6 year old CRT, which was perfect for the whole time, started to emit this terrible electrical burning smell the other day, and I shut everything off before it f*cking exploded in my eye.

1280x1024 really isn't spectacular. Really. Right now I'm running 1920x1200 on my laptop screen.

Anyway, is the problem only in CS:S? If so you should try to fuck around with the different aspect ratios first, cause I had a similar problem on this laptop, since it's widescreen.
I hope you're not getting distortions though. That happened to a screen of mine back in the day, I thought it would be funny to see how high the resolution could go (shitty ass 15" CRT)... well, when I put it on 2000x1400-something the thing freaked out on me. Then I had permanent distortions in the corners of my screen, and the whole picture was leaning. No amout of screen horizontal/vertical/scew could fix it
