Hey - I'm not sure if this is a bug with steam or what but it seems like after playing for a random amount of time (half an hour to an hour - it isn't a fixed amount of time) Steam will crash. My internet connection will still be working as I can still access thing from my laptop but on my PC suddenly I cannot connect to anything on Steam and I can't view my friends list saying there is no connection. I also get an error when I try to open firefox thereafter. It's kind of like Steam crashes and suddenly I lose all internet connection on my PC until I reboot then everything is fine again. Any ideas?

reinstall steam maybe?

i would ask a valve official. unless you hate them they could answer you better then me. of all the steam problems i've had, it crashing it not one of them.
