Pretty good except...

Why in the f*ck are you buying Vista? And why not the Ultimate version?

I would recommend not getting a tsunami. Pretty bad airflow and gets a lot of dust-clog really fast. Also TT lies on fan sound tests, so just get some yate-loons or something quieter. That thing will be LOUD.

With the P5N-E, I really like mine, but it does have a pretty big vdroop. There's a mod to fix it, but it's a bastard and a half (I'll do it later, I'm sure). Make sure to get the newest bios ASAP. The one it ships with is crap.

Should be a very solid build, though! Enjoy!

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T GET VISTA! Unless you've always/plan to always pay for music, then don't get vista. Unless the media file has a electronic license, then vista wont play it. You can't use any anti virus software that Microsoft doesn't allow, and it's a resource hog, making all that shiny new hardware lots less effective for gaming.

Also, remember to manually set your ram speeds. For DDR2 800, that board usually defaults the speeds to 400mhz.

I haven't had any problems wiht playing music in vista. I have 0 with any DRM on it (hell, I'm not gonna pay for my own music)
Current AV software that doesn't work in vista can pretty much only find virus files that also don't work in vista. Overnight scans still work.
Every test I've seen has vista and xp at ~ the same framerates in all games...

Oh, and all new mobos default to the speeds written on the SPD chips on the RAM sticks. my p5n-e defaulted one stick to 800, and one to 667 (new ram came today! finally rid of this POS geil!) so yes, you need to set speeds, but the # is based on the mem manufacturer. :D

*only really confident about the memory*

Don't just repeat what you read, or hear from skeptics.... lol

Vista isn't as bad as you all make it sound. Kaspersky has a new version that works exactly the same with vista as xp.

An MP3 is an MP3.... don't worry about DRM.... unless you buy music and then copy it around alot..... If you just steal it anyways, then no problems.

As for resources... yeah it requires more than XP. Probably half of BoSS members have rigs that are powerful enough to run games on Vista....

I agree with monster.. vista isn't all that bad.. its pretty much XP2.. everything is basically the same as in XP but it has 64 bit support and dx10 support.. which is why i'll upgrade to vista when i build my new computer since i'll need both of them...

What case would you suggest then? I want something with plenty of room and look's nice for my (few) LAN parties.

Well after adding my speakers, my list comes out to about $1,600, meaning I have an extra 100$ left over. Any ideas on how to expand on this little money?

Antec Solos are on sale (40 AR) and they're pretty nice. If you want something bigger, always the P180s. I personally thing the 900 is hideous, but some people are into the shiny lights and windows. :D

Away from antec, I love most coolermaster cases (I own a stacker personally). Since I don't like tons of lights and windows, it limits what I even consider for a case... You may want to ask others here. I see lots of thermaltake armors going around (small stacker + lights)

about the vdroop mod, you can apparently pencil it if you're wicked careful. I ended up raising idle voltage, too, so I had to undo it..

Since you have 100 extra, get an 8800 instead of the 7950. the new 320meg gts's are only about 20 more... The 640megs are within reach with the full 100..

OS choice is really up to you. Personally I'd get Vista. Yes bugs will exist, but saying you'll stick to XP to avoid bugs is like saying you're going to sit in a pool of honey to avoid the bees in the jelly (yes, I'm tired and that's what I could think of... also hungry)

Not that i like it, its just there's no point in hating it if you're going to have to switch to it eventually..
I mean if you want to continue playing games in the future, you'll have to upgrade to it..

Not if you just wait for the next Windows OS planned to release either the end of this year of the beginning of next. The only thing keeping me back from Vista is the software that won't allow illegal programs. Mostly every thing I use is illegal.

Lol yeah... but i doubt that they'll just throw those anti-piracy things in vista and the next one won't have them.. i bet from now on all window's will have that crap.. and yeah vista is unrealistically expensive... glad i get it for free lol :perk:
