I'm looking to upgrade my cpu and graphics card in the next six months. I'm probably also going to swap everything over to compact liquid cooled case.

Since a lot of you guys know your sh*t I was wondering what you would recommend for a socket 939 mobo and a graphics card?

The budget will be around 800 - 1k

Does it have to be socket 939? With that budget you could easily upgrade to say an e6300 which smokes almost all 939s, plus they overclock insanely well.

Oh and as for graphics card I'm not sure what to recommend since the r600s comin out soon

Nah it doesn't have to be 939.

Okay then, what's the best setup i can get with a new mobo, cpu, and graphics card...for around 1k

My suggestions:

Processor
E6600 $320

If you don't plan on Sli or crossfire in the near future then either the P5B from Asus $180
or the gigabyte Ds3 $135
are both good mobos.

and for your video card

If u had to pick right now I'd say 8800 gts which is around $390, but r600 is coming out shortly and I'm not sure how it will be priced and all that so just wait and see how that works out.

Also make sure your PSU can handle a high end video card.

Again these are just my suggestions.

Don't get a liquid cooled case. All prebuilt/external water cooling kits normally blow compared to a few Black Ice's and a DD TDX. With 1K you could upgrade to a nice Conroe PC, but I'd save up some more so you could get a real bad ass machine.

I would suggest waiting on the R600 as far as video cards go. But im sure its gonna be expensive.

If the Specs are real then dont expect the r600 to be below $800...

Yeah jack I'd say just wait a little bit longer though and the core2duo's might come down in prices. also, so will the high end nvidia cards once the r600 is released. its a win situation but its all about what you want and when you want it.

If you are gonna upgrade you probably will want to look into another PSU as well, not sure how well that Antec will hold up on one of them new cards. But the performance difference between your current processor and a core2duo will be worth it, that is if you're gonna be playing some of the new games comin out.

If this is what I currently have, can't I upgrade to one of these cpu's without changing mobo's?

Yea but thats stupid when you can add a few more bucks for a lot more performance with the core2duo chips. If you're gonna upgrade why not make it worth it.

Depends on your budget. If your just looking for a quicky upgrade than I wouldn't drop 800 dollar for a whole new system. You will still be able to play all your games with an FX-57/[email protected]. BUT OMFG WITH A C2D YOU COULD PLAY 309904504 instances of Oblivion while decoding the milky way! Your decision.

An fx-57 costs about the same as an e6600, yet the e6600 destroys it performance wise so why would he upgrade a dying socket (939) for a lot less price/performance. And he says his budget is around 1k.

Oh and decoding the milky way is what I plan to do with my conroe.
