Well ever since picked up that 22" monitor I've wanted to get a new video card. My X800XL just isn't quite as good at 1680x1050 for gaming. Its not bad on some of the smaller GG maps, but on office with a full server its not great. So I just picked up an X1950GT which I do plan on overclocking to get close to PRO performance. Also had to get a new power supply, arg.. Picked up a Seasonic S12 Energy Plus 550Watt. Should be fine for what I need it for. Now I just have to suffer at work until I can get home and install everything and try it out.

Basically this is cheap enough to hold me over till I get a nice DX10 card when I do a full upgrade to Vista. Maybe later this year or early next.

If anyone is interested. My current settings give me about 74fps in the Video Stress Test. I'll verify that before I pull it apart and I'll post up the numbers after (stock and oc'd). Here's to hoping that goes up a significant amount.

Yeah my Current card, the x800xl only runs 74fps in the Video Stress Test.. Well Something like that. Thats at 1650x1080 with most settings at mid to high.

I haven't even been home to install the new one yet, so I don't know how that will run.

The x800 will be going in my HTPC when I get a PCI-Express motherboard for it. It should make a great video card for that. I only have an FX5200 in it now.

7.1 sucked. 7.2 was better, Before 7.2 6.10 was the last semi-decent one and before that 6.5.. I honestly had nothing but crashes with 7.1s and they were fixed with 7.2 as long as I disabled CCC (aka didn't install it)

Well 7.1 is working for now so I'll leave it.

I have an AMD 64 3500+ for a CPU. Ran the Video stresst twice for each, average of two. Same settings.

X800XL - stock
77 fps

X1950GT - stock
140fps

X1950GT - GPU 494mhz -> 625mhz, memory at stock
143.5fps

Either I'm cpu bound or it just doesn't make that much difference in CSS. I'll try another game at some point, but I'm sticking to stock speed for now. CSS is all I really get to play, but I am finally ready to try the new CNC3 demo.

Doesn't make much of a difference you say? You just doubled your FPS, seems like a good upgrade to me.

He was talkin about the overclock on the video card and source is more cpu bound than gpu but if run 3d-mark05 you'll see the difference.

Forgot to mention that all tests were done at 1680x1050. I have had bad luck in the past when it comes to overclocking really. So I don't bother any more. Someday I may go there again. I do have an aftermarket cooler on my CPU already.

Wasn't that card originally for MAC, or am I thinking of the AGP version? EDIT: I know nothing about MACs, absolutely nothing, so don't flame on that question.

Yeah well.. for the price of it, I didn't really expect much more. Just wanted to be able to run games at native resolution which my X800 wasn't doing so well. I finally got to try C&C3 briefly and its awesomely smooth.

As for this card being for a Mac.. I have no idea. Its an underclocked X1950 PRO.. which as been out for a while. Same Chip, even faster memory but there is some problem with the card that doesn't like memory overclocks and same Cooler on the side of it.

The cooler is pretty damn loud though. The reviewers weren't kidding about that.

It may have different timings on the memory, so it may OC memory differently. (just a guess)
