The problem with it was that it was exactly the same as the xbox version, no graphical upgrades or anything.. it was still the same game, it just wasn't better or worse... the game itself isnt that great anywayRecently released halo 2 for pc was not as good as the famed console version, even though the pc version was released 3 years later. The same story goes with RE4.

For those who can't afford a high quality gaming pc, consoles might be a savior. Consoles do get some nice games that aren't released on pc.
More people than not can't afford a high quality gaming PC. God knows I can't. Think about it, a high quality gaming PC runs you anywhere from 1000 to 3000 dollars (if you go balls out, which is stupid). What's a console go for? 250-600? Even on the high to low, you still spend 400 dollars less.
That freedom you mentioned, Chris, can also be a negative to many of your more casual gamers. The PC is more complicated to use and to make sure everything is working properly. What do I do with my Xbox? I turn the power on and pop a disc in. It's much easier and much more appealing because of that. Does it re-enforce the dumbing down of America? Sure. But it helps drive sales.
And that's what matters to the execs. Sales. Money. Basically I'm saying that you can extol all the virtues of PC gaming vs. the virtues of console gaming, and to the people in charge it comes down to the fact that console gaming, in particular the software side, is substantially more profitable than PC gaming.
