Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son this weekend before hanging himself Monday in the weight room of his Georgia home, a law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press.

Benoit, his wife and 7-year-old son were found dead Monday afternoon, and police later ruled the deaths a murder-suicide.

I turned on Fox News earlier today and for about 2 hrs they kept showing breaking news and what-not about the story. Apparently he used a piece of gym equipment to hang himself and it is supposedly steroids that made him do it.

Steroids can certainly affect your mood states due to the hormone fluctuations, thus being a contributor to psychological/emotional crisis and trauma, but it doesn't "make" you kill people. "Roid rage" has been exaggerated by the media. Even that term is sensationalist jargon. If Chris Benoit was abusing steroids (notice I said abusing, not using--there's a difference), which he probably was, I can see them contributing to his emotional instability. However, it takes more than just hormone fluctuations to make one believe the best way out of a bad situation is to kill one's family and self.
