Jack you're more than welcome to try your kendo at a local sca practice. It's two different things. I've done kendo some on the side, and it's nothing special.

We dont "re-enact" it's realtime full contact fighting. If kendo or some other style worked, we'd use it. Seriously. I'm not in it for the art, i'm in it to be better at fighting than the next guy. I'm being taught by a very well known member of our organization who's been fighting for30 years now, he still does fight at 48. It's hard on the body, as much as any other sport. Bruises are commonplace.

Like I said, if there were a "better" way to strike each other than what we do, we'd do it. The fighting type has been around fr 40 years and it's been full contact the whole time. If kendo or any other kid of sword training worked so well we'd use it. Many of our fighters adapt their kendo/boxing/etc styles to what we do, but not everything translates over nicely to full contact fighting.

Basically, the difference is that we can hit each other as hard as we want and not hurt each other, that's why we can be so quick to figure out what works and what doesn't.

I've been fighting for 4 years now and i can hold my own against some of the best of our some odd 25,000 active fighters. I have a good teacher by good fortune and I am much more inspired than your average "d&d" or casual fighter who does this for fun. I do it much more seriously than most and that's what sets the best apart from everyone else. I work hard for what I do, i research, practice as many hours a week as most kids my age have part time jobs. So it's not hard tog et offended when someone mocks what you put so much passion into when they don't know anything. I didn't come on here to knock anything anyone does, i have respect for all of it. But don't knock what I do until you've tried it.

i agree i do martal arts myself i studied a old art called rendury "dunno the spelling of it" and i know how it can be to do full contact sparing or fighting i would love to do the whole sword fighting but only sword's i know how to use are katanas and ninjatoes = the streight bladed sword a ninja uses

Well, I'm saying we won't KILL each other, i've knocked a few people out. And I've left a lot of bruises on people. We just have armor requirements that avoid More serious injury like broken necks, kindey/liver injuries, etc.

Another tough thing that ninja/samurai boys don't comprehend is how big an advantage a shield gives. Especially when kendo boy hasn't ever fought against one. Sure a 2handed-sword guy has rocked my world, but he knows how a shield works. It's all apples and oranges, and i've tried kendo and what i do, and there's a GOOD reason I do what I do. Full contact and no one goes to jail. Just bruises and beer.

We still get hurt, just nothing serious so no one get's sued.
