As some of you guys know, im getting a new computer, (its in another thread)

My friend who is putting it together for me is like "You need x64 because your processor supports it and if you dont use x64 your kind of just using only half of your computer"

I know it can be a little quicker using somethings because it can calculate using higher numbers or some sh*t. I also know it can recognize more ram (more then 3gbs) but on the other hand, i have heard there is very little support and drivers/programs/printers dont work with x64

so...is it worth it? or just a bunch of sh*t?

A lot of programs/hardware unfortunately don't support 64-bit yet, it's really only used somewhat extensively on servers.

Also, the 64-bit version of XP can be un-stable compared to 32-bit.

TL;DR: Your friend is a retard.

64 bit architecture can address more memory, but other than that... it is not faster or anything like that. Linux distros have done a good job at their 64 bit versions, windows has not.

Not to mention getting drivers for some hardware is a b*tch. IMHO, 32 bit XP is the better choice. Tell your friend to die in a fire and stop being a knowit all idiot.
