Alright, as of late I've been getting some serious pop up ads killing my chances of playing games. As when I'm surfing on Firefox I get a new tab opened to a ad, and when I play a game I get a pop up in IE, that screws me over in game.

I've been using a basic version of McAffree, which has never really done real well, but worked keeping pop ups at a minimum. And now it isn't doing sh*t.

So, any suggestions for firewall, spy ware, anti virus software? I was thinking of putting down a chunk of change and getting Norton, but I wanted to know what yo guys have had the best results with before putting down $50 - $100 in software.

from reading past post on this forum.. and with what i got runnin on my puter.. id suggest..

ad-ware se professional
kaspersky antivirus
zonealarm basic (free firewall) mainly my router does all the work for that ..
and every know and then i run spybot search and destroy just for the hell of it ..

ooo and Perfect disk (via one of shadows old recomendations on a post) rocks ass compared to windows defrag .. get 30 day free trial its worth checking out..

I tried zone alarm, it works ok, but stuff gets past it, and it slows down CS:S horribly, to a point where it seems like Im lag hacking.

lol yea .. like i said my router does most of the work


before that i had primedius i think that was it never had any problems with it.. but i don't know if it was worth a flip or not

i would suggest you use all that...ad-aware se is damn good, havnt used kasperksy yet but ive read that its also damn fine (been stuck with mcafee cuz im too cheap to pay for a virus scan), and perfect disk f*ckin kicks ass

AVAST AND AVG ARE FREE VIRUS PROTECTION SOFTWARE BOTH BETTER THAN MCAFEE!!!! I use avast and it kicks ass!!!!

Just got mCAfee at costco for like $15. Came with an anti-virus, and firewall. Its working pretty good right now, cuz i had AVG b4 and it bothered the hell outta me.

if you know what ur doing, u can keep ur computer basically spyware free. dont use internet explorer, and dont go to porn sites that give u viruses. i dont even have a spyware cleaner and my sh*t's basically clean. i've ran probably 5 different ones on my machine and all found zilch.

I use free Avast Antivirus (updates almost every 3-4 days), sygate personal firewall (free), and MS Antispyware.

Preach the truth! i dont use a firewall.. my router does that.. i do have the windows firewall on though.. just for the heck of it.. and for antevirus.. i use Clamwin.. its nice... and it updates everyday!! owned!!

I use kaspersky personal pro and spybot along with a router for firewall. Never had a problem. Teamed up with Opera as a browser, I dont have any problems. Firefox is great also, I'm just used to Opera. All other AV is crap compared to kaspersky.

I use a decent firewall, because it detects if a software try to reach out internet and asks me to if i let it go or not. router or windows firewall don't do that.

yeah windows fire wall does that... it asks you to block or unblock whenever a program is trying to connect, the same thing norton firewall did... but norton was super gay about it... it would block it untill you tell it to unblock (which is fine) but it would start when the game is already started and if you cant alt-tab out of the game.. it locks your system and you have to restart your system and go into the firewall and unblock it.. which was annoying as f*ck.. but my major complaint with norton is that if you turn it off.. it tells you that its off every 5 seconds, so you cant pretty much do anything with it off.. and you cant trun that thing off...

to be honest i didn't use windows firewall since its first came out. but when its first came out, most of the software was able pass it through without problem. but it seems got better nowadays.

Sygate, Once again is probably the best firewall.

Zonealarm is ok, but its just an overhyped peice of sh*t imo, damn thing reports 1 portscan as 100 attacks... good f*cking game.

Try, Defender Pro, or Spyware doctor. i use both.
