You are american, therefor you should drive an american car. As you will be buying it used, foreign is okay... but don't make it a habit.
Hopefully that I've now bolded the text you can see what I was talking about.

mustang = break alot bad in gas and high in insurance
z28 same... y would anyone buy a v6 their ugly anyway
saturn = t belt nightmare and they spend more time in the shop then on the road
subaru..lol we just wont go there.. horizionaly imposted engine = pistons go side to side and not up and down = gravity wins and tears the f*ck out of one side of the piston.
dodge = trannys and the only one worth lookin at is the srt
for 5k man u cant beat a civic
if i was u..
buy a cheap honda for 2500 and spend the rest on your pc or car upgrades

Thats actually a fairly accurate list... although having a mustang high in insurance doesn't really make sense. Insurance is based on too many factors to just say a mustang is a high price (which it usually is... 2 door sports car, he'll be in the highest accident bracket for age, engine size in the car, and depending on the color the accident % will effect it too).
Anyhow, as we've all stated... all cars have faults. In my experience american cars work well. I'm only alive because my dad's bonneville back in the day was big and sturdy enough that when a bronco going 55 mph smashed into us (we were stopped on the highway) we didn't just get crushed between him and the car in front of us. A honda, mitsubishi, toyota, or saturn would have just folded. It's just a preference, and for you, one partially influenced by price.

Yeah cause Porsche makes such sh*t engines as well. Dont get the wrong impression though, Subaru's cant turn.
Just get a 4k honda/toyota (dont spend all of your money) and drive it till it dies. Dont do any "upgrades" and just keep doing the regular scheduled maintenance.
Problem solved Imho.

Take the argument of American cars versus everyone else to another place.
In all honesty, I will buy the car that suits me. I don't give a sh*t if it is American made or not. Especially because of what I need it for (gas saving), I won't buy an American car. I need upwards of 25-30 mpg. The American economy has bigger worries than foreign cars at this point IMO.
I think if you want to buy only US cars, it is a statement. I respect it, but I am probably getting a civic.
